It is no surprise that thousands of people across the United States and the world come to California to motorcycle on our beautiful roads. The nature that we get to enjoy here at home is spectacular, and if you like to take to the road yourself on two wheels, well, you are not alone. However, motorcycle riding is also associated with serious risks, so it is important to wear the gear necessary to keep safe while in the saddle. According to the AARP, the two most important things to consider when choosing your gear are comfort and safety.

The first thing to make sure you pick up is a helmet. You can choose between a half helmet, 3/4 helmet, and full face helmet. Not only is wearing a helmet California law, it is also vital if you end up in an accident. Wearing a helmet can be the difference between escaping with minor injuries and potential death.

Wearing a motorcycle jacket is also important. While traditional motorcyclists wear a black jacket, we actually recommend that you pick something with brighter colors. This is because drivers in four wheeled vehicles are more likely to notice you if you are wearing neon yellow as compared to black leather. Even if it is hot out, it’s important to wear a jacket to protect yourself in the event of a fall. If you only ride in hot weather, consider purchasing a jacket made of breathable mesh.

Finally, remember to consider your shoes. It is never okay to wear sandals on a motorcycle, and this applies to passengers as well. If you can get specific motorcycle boots that is always best, as the insteps are reinforced and this will protect them against your shifter, but work boots will do.
